Vintage oversize satin finish photograph of Freddie King performing in Northern Holland, 1971, while on tour with Leon Russell and the Grease Band, by photographer Barrie Wentzell. One of an edition of 100 images (this being number "42") struck by the photographer in 1993 in a limited edition of 50 prints each (this being number "43/50"), signed, titled ("Freddy [sic] King ~ 1971"), and numbered by Wentzell in the bottom margin, and also signed by Wentzell on the verso, with his photographer's stamp and the annotations "42 of 100 / 43/50" on the verso, and a "Barrie Wentzell Photography" blind stamp in the center bottom margin. Barry Wentzell began his career as a photographer after meeting photojournalist Maurice Newcombe in the early 1960s. In 1965 Wentzell photographed a young Diana Ross during a chance encounter which made a riveting cover for the renowned music magazine The Melody Maker. Wentzell was soon hired as the exclusive chief photographer for the magazine, and from 1965 to 1975 photographed many of the most iconic musicians of the period, many unknown at the time, including The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Who, The Kinks, Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, as well as celebrated artists such as Louis Armstrong, Aretha Franklin, Bob Dylan, and countless more. 16 x 20 inches. Near Fine.
