Two new Chryseofusus are described from the Nazareth Bank (Mascarene Plateau), Indian Ocean: C. lorenzi spec. nov. is compared to C. jurgeni (Hadorn & Fraussen, 2002) from Mozambique Channel while C. lecourtorum spec. nov. is compared to C. bradneri (Drivas & Jay, 1990) from Reunion. 5 pp., 2 pls, 4.

Four species, collected in the Cape Verde Islands, are described as new and asigned to the genus Euthria M. E. Gray, 1830. The new species are compared with other taxa from the Mediterranean Sea and the Cape Verde Archipelago. The genera Euthria, and Buccinulum are compared and the significance of the differences between them is discussed, leading to the conclusion that both genera are valid and should be kept separated. 13 pp., 31 col. figs, gr. 8.

Schelpen aan de Belgische kust is een praktische natuurgids die de natuurliefhebber toelaat om schelpen gevonden langs onze kust op naam te brengen. Determinatie gebeurt aan de hand van schitterende kleurenfoto's. De verschillen tussen verwante of gelijkende soorten worden toegelicht met duidelijke figuren en beschrijvingen. Naast de beschrijving van elke soort wordt er kort uitgeweid over levenswijze, ecologie en systematiek. Hierbij worden ook schelpen afgebeeld zoals ze dagelijks op het strand te vinden zijn, beschadigd door predatoren en golfslag. Het boek beschrijft niet alleen alle soorten weekdieren (Mollusca) die aan onze kust voorkomen of er gevonden werden, maar behandelt eveneens een aantal andere diersoorten en strandvondsten, zoals zeepokken en zee-egels. Aangezien onze kust een ware schatkamer van pleistocene fossielen vormt, wordt ook aan deze groep ruime aandacht besteed, wat dit boek uniek maakt in zijn genre. In de inleidende bladzijden wordt er dieper ingegaan op de technische aspecten van het verzamelen en conserveren van schelpen, waarbij de aspecten van natuurbehoud en biodiversiteit niet uit het oog verloren worden. All 35 Buccinum names, including 5 names indicated by a single character, described from Newfoundland by Theodor Anton Verkrüzen in the years 1878 to 1884 are discussed. Their original descriptions are translated from German to English. Type material of 24 of them is figured. In addition, shells connected to 14 manuscript names are figured. Part of the type material is preserved in the Naturmuseum Senckenberg, Senckenberg Forschungsinstitut (SMF, Frankfurt am Main, Germany) and was already discussed by Kobelt (1883) and Zilch (1969). The whereabouts of the remaining type specimens remained unknown until we discovered them recently in the Natural History Museum (NHMUK, London, United Kingdom), where most of them were acquired in 1911 as part of the Museum Normanianum (Alfred Merle Norman, 1831-1918). In the present paper we figure these type specimens: the ones from SMF for the first time photographed in colour, the ones from NHMUK for the first time ever. We compare these species and forms with each other and with similar species, trying to ascertain their status. Our purpose is to improve the systematic knowledge and nomenclatural stability, hoping to reduce the chaos that hampers the systematics of the genus Buccinum. In particular, the identity and natural history of Buccinum inexhaustum Verkrüzen, 1881 is investigated, a lectotype is selected and the taxon is compared to other species and to interpretations thereof by subsequent authors. We place B.meridionale Verkrüzen, 1884 in synonymy with B.inexhaustum instead of with B.undatum. Furthermore, we confirm B.gouldii Verrill, 1882 being a junior synonym of B.inexhaustum. The type material of B.variabile is found to be heterogeneous, therefore a lectotype is selected to clarify its identity in accordance with the original description, but no nomen novum is produced for this junior homonym. We confirm B.amaliae Verkrüzen, 1878 and B.conspicuum Verkrüzen, 1878 being synonyms of B.undatum Linnaeus, 1758. We confirm B.elegans Verkrüzen, 1878 being a synonym of B.terraenovae Beck in Mörch, 1867. In addition, we list the historical details that we could retrieve about Theodor Anton Verkrüzen's life, to offer the reader a broader context. 94 pp., 71 figs, 9 plates, br. 4.

Despite their relative uniformity in terms of colour and shape, some species show considerable variability and this led to some taxonomic problems. Their striking patterns have led authors to rely on the pattern as a criterion for species distinction, in preference to much more reliable structural features such as whether and to what degree the suture is channelled, and the structure of the fasciole and umbilicus. The present book figures 16 taxa in the genus Babylonia and another four in Zemiropsis. Beside the scientific names all species are also introduced with their vernacular names in classical Chinese, modified Chinese and Japanese. 80 pp., 48 col. pls, hc 4.
