The purpose of the expedition was to investigate the relationships between the peoples at… each side of the Bering Strait. The expedition was sponsored by Morris Jesup and planned and directed by Franz Boas, and produced a number of important ethnographies (this among them), as well as valuable collections of artifacts and photographs. From the collection of Wayne Prescott Suttles, renowned anthropologist, scholar, and linguist regarding many Pacific cultures, and especially the U.S. Pacific Northwest Coast Salish people. His name stamped to the TOC page. Wraps rebound into hardcase with loss of forematter up to TOC. Condition notes: 193-300 numbered pp + plates; HB. Pages: clean, ivory, tight; a.e. modestly tanned, Plate VIII dampstained. Cover: brick buckram, gilt titles to 2 leather spineblocks; v lt shelfwear, extrems barely worn, spineblocks moderately rubbed, with a bit of loss of clarity. Numerous in-text engravings and drawings. Nice copy of an historic document. Large and heavy.
