The "comeback king," British comedian and actor whose popularity on films, television and the stage rose and fell for most of his career; films include "The Runaway Bus" (1954), "Carry On Doctor" (1967) and "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" (1978), among others. TNS, 1p, 8¼" X 7 3/4", London, England, 1983 January 19. Addressed to Richard Laade. Very good. Original mailing folds. "I am flattered that you should take the trouble to write from such a distance," he writes an American admirer, transmitting a photograph (not present).

Draft script for the 1958 British comedy, copy belonging to Art Director George Provis, with the annotation of his name along the top edge of the front wrapper, with manuscript pencil annotations on four pages. George Provis was a British Art Director and Production Designer who began his career working on quota quickies (low budget features made to comply with Britain's Cinematograph Films Act of 1927) in the 1930s. After the Second World War, Provis was appointed by British film producer Sydney Box to head the art department at Gainsborough Pictures, and is credited on over 120 films. Sequel to the 1958 British film "Up the Creek," also directed by Val Guest, and starring David Tomlinson and Peter Sellers. Sellers was unable to appear in the sequel because of scheduling conflicts with another film. When the Navy frigate, the "Aristotle," is sold to a fictitious Middle Eastern power, the ship's bosun, played by Frankie Howerd, sells tickets for the voyage as a luxury cruise unbeknownst to the Captain. Shot on location in Portland Harbour, England. Pink titled wrappers. Title page present, with credits for screenwriters Val Guest, John Warren, and Len Heath. 199 leaves, with last page of text numbered 195. Mimeograph duplication, rectos only. Pages Near Fine, wrapper Very Good plus, bound internally with three flat metal brads.

Three vintage black-and-white borderless double weight reference photographs Julie Ege, taken as test shots for the 1971 film. Ege is shown sitting in cloth folding chair with her name on it, in various positions designed to hide her breasts as unsuccessfully as possible. Ege, an actress and model, is best known for this film, where she plays Voluptua, a Roman ruler. Additionally, she starred in Peter Yates' 1967 thriller "Robbery," two notable Hammer films, "Creatures the World Forgot" and "The Legend of the 7 Golden Vampires," and as a Bond girl in "On Her Majesty's Secret Service." She was also Miss Norway, a Miss Universe contestant, and a Penthouse Pet of the Month. 8 x 10 inches. Near Fine.

First edition, INSCRIBED BY THE AUTHOR TO RAY GALTON: 'For Ray, With respect, admiration and gratitude, Graham McCann'. With his writing partner Alan Simpson, Ray Galton [1930-2018] produced two of the funniest and most influential British sitcoms ever: Hancock's Half Hour and Steptoe and Son. Galton's association with Frankie Howerd began in the early 1950s as early members of the writers' co-operative Associated London Scripts. Galton and Simpson first wrote for Howerd in 1953, when pressure of work saw Eric Sykes hand over the reins of The Frankie Howerd Show to the fledgling writers. They wrote regularly for him for the next twenty years. Ray Galton was an important contributor to the book, and receives a printed acknowledgement in its preliminaries. The handwritten one McCann added to the title page of this presentation copy is an excellent association.
