The third edition of A Natural History of British Moths, accurately delienating every known species with the English as well as scientific names, written by parson-naturalist Francis Orpen Morris. Complete in four volumes. Published in 1872, first published from 1861-1870. In the publisher's original green cloth, with each volume containing a hand-coloured frontispiece and numerous other hand-coloured plates with frequent collaboarators Benjamin Fawcett and Alexander Francis Lydon. Contains publisher's original advertisements to the rear. Despite writing numerous clerical works, Morris is best known as a natural history populariser, writing numerous insightful volumes on birds and winged-insects. As well as listing the names of each species, Morris delves into different foods, habits and behaviours which make each particular species unique. - Volume I: Including on Enommidae, Sphingidae and Fidonidae among others.
