Observations in the field revealed that crustaceous lichens seemed to inhibit the growth of epiphytic bryophytes and possibly also of vascular epiphytes. Therefore experiments were performed to test the effect of extracts of crustaceous lichens and bark samples on the germination of spores of the mosses Ceratodon purpureus and Funaria hygrometrica as well on seeds of Vriesea splendens (Bromeliaceae) and Lepidium sativum (Brassicaceae). The results show that extracts of the crustaceous lichens Cryptotheca sp. and Pertusaria sp. inhibit the germination of spores and seeds. Extracts of bark samples reduce the germination rate of Vriesea but promote the germination of Lepidium. 10 pp., 9 figs, gr. 8.

Plant and animal species with Mediterranean ranges and disjunct occurrences in Central Europe on exposed habitats are usually interpreted as relicts of a postglacial warm climatic period (60007800 years BP). Isozyme analysis of different populations of Bartramia stricta Brid. from southern France and the Mosel valley area in Germany revealed that the German populations studied are identical to one of two populations from southern France. This could be explained by the fact that only one population from southern France was able to extend its range to the north and to survive there. It could also mean that the disjunct occurrence in Central Europe is a consequence of later spore dispersal from southern France and Bartramia stricta would not be a relict species in Germany. 10 pp., 2 figs, gr. 8.

En 1989, la première compilation de la bryoflore des Vosges et des zone limitrophes paru avec la collaboration de D. Lamy, G. Philippi, V. Rastetter, R. Schumacker et J. Werner (FRAHM 1989). Pour la première fois elle contenait une présentation de la bryoflore d'une partie de la France avec des cartes de distribution en réseau. Cette première vue d ensemble fut complétée par Rastetter (1990), Werner (1990) et Frahm (1991), traveaux incluant d autres espèces nouvelles pour les Vosges. 5 ans plus tard Frahm (1994) ajoutait de nombreuses informations sur la bryoflore et surtout indiquait 16 espèces nouvelles pour la région. In 1989, the first compilation of the bryoflora of the Vosges and neighboring areas appeared with the collaboration of D. Lamy, G. Philippi, V. Rastetter, R. Schumacker and J. Werner (FRAHM 1989). For the first time it contained a presentation of the bryoflora of part of France with network distribution maps. This first overview was completed by Rastetter (1990), Werner (1990) and Frahm (1991), works including other new species for the Vosges. 5 years later Frahm (1994) added a lot of information on the bryoflora and above all indicated 16 new species for the region. 132 pp. + 752 maps on 190 unnumbered pages, br. gr. 8 [18 x 25 cm].
