Pages: [16], 1- 247, bound in full contemporary speckled calf, gilt lettered morocco label to spine, all edges stained red by binder, endpapers replaced at sometime. Spine repaired with most of the old spine relaid, 3 small repairs to blank side of outer margin of title page, no loss to text, hinges rubbed with lower hinge cracked and still holding, inner paper hinge of lower hinge strengthened with paper to give extra suport to cover, corners slightly worn, couple of small pieces of leather missing on covers, some old scuffing and scratching, inner paper hinges cracked, old ink private library shelf number at top of title page, small ink mark and some brown spotting to title page, fore-edge of title page slightly chipped, engraved armorial bookplate (the right Honourable Thomas Earl of Hadinton) pasted verso title page, faint foxing to some margins, several pages faintly foxed all over, pale age toning throughout, occasional small dark spot, tiny chip to margin of final page neatly repaired. A good copy only of the first edition. Henry Foulis (1638-1669) Fellow of Lincoln College, Oxford, took holy orders, but devoted himself to historical studies. He wrote this work against the Catholics & Presbyterians. "This 'book, tho' full of notable girds against that party, yet it hath been so pleasing to the royalists, (who have found much wit and mirth therein,) that some of them have caused it to be chained to desks in public places, and in some country-churches, to be read by the vulgar'.
