Stiff paper wrappers. Zustand: A fine copy. As new. First edition. xiii, 146 pp. Illus. with 2 color plates, 75 duotones, and 108 b&w figures. 4to. Published on the occasion of the exhibition of the same name at the Cleveland Museum of Art. This exhibition of 59 works features the best sheets from the more than 400 in the collection of Muriel Butkin who had been collecting French drawings extensively for more than 25 years. Almost all of the drawings are from the 18th and 19th centuries. Included are works by such well-known masters as François Boucher, Théodore Géricault, Jean-François Millet, and Edgar Degas. Many of these drawings are unknown to both the public and scholars, so this exhibition and its accompanying catalogue highlights for the first time a rich trove of French art.

In den Warenkorbhardcover. Zustand: Good. Our good condition books are generally good for reading but not for gifting or collecting. They could have imperfections such as creasing, fanning, inscriptions, margin notes, yellowing, staining on edge or cover or pages, bumps, scuffs, etc etc (sometimes multiple of these). It's a wide category that encompasses anything that isn't almost-new down to anything that is slightly better than poor. We would NOT recommend gifting Good books - these should be considered reading copies. Our books are dispatched from a Yorkshire former cotton mill. We list via barcode/ISBN so please note that the images are stock images and may not be the exact copy you receive, furthermore the details about edition and year might not be accurate as many publishers reuse the same ISBN for multiple editions and as we simply scan a barcode or enter an ISBN we do not check the validity of the edition data when listing. If you're looking for an exact edition please don't order (at least not without checking with us first, although we don't always have time to check). We aim to dispatch prompty, the service used will depend on order value and book size. We can ship to most countries, see our shipping policies. Payment is via Abe only.

Hardcover. Zustand: As New. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: As New. 1st Edition. Condition: As New, unread and excellent book, all pages and cover pristine, no markings, no tears. With dust jacket. // Edward Hopper (18821967) is recognized as one of the most well-known American artists of the 20th century. His distinctive style, combining subtle observations of the world with his imagination, has not only influenced other artists but also photographers, filmmakers, and popular culture. Although Hopper is primarily known for his oil paintings, including such iconic works asNighthawks (1942) and Early Sunday Morning (1930), this important publication is the first comprehensive exploration of his drawings and working methods. In 1967, Hopper's widow, Josephine Nivison Hopper, bequeathed her husband's artistic estate to the Whitney Museum of American Art, including a fascinating collection of more than 2,500 drawings spanning his entire career. This group of works has never been the subject of in-depth study and many have never been reproduced before. Hopper kept these drawings for personal reference as he revisited various themes throughout his career. Carter E. Foster examines how Hopper used his drawings to develop his paintings, arguing that the artist's work can only be fully understood after careful study of these preparatory sketches. Foster also argues that Hopper was, in many ways, a traditional draftsman who methodically developed schematic ideas into detailed studies to refine content. However, the steps toward this refinement are unique to Hopper and reveal how he turned the mundane into poetic images with universal appeal. // 248 pages; format: 32,5 x 24,8 x 3,0 cm; bookweight: 1870 g.
