'Overprint from the Archaeologia Aeliana, 3rd series, vol. xi'. t.p.+half title with photo on verso+pp,3-34+substantial block of blank leaves bound in as filler, 17 further figs in tex variously photos and line drawings, large unfolding site plan in excellent condition. ex-New College Oxford with their heraldic plate dated 1948 fr. pastedown inscr. 'Presented by D.Swan Esq.', sm.oval New College stamp, with some red ink numbers, overlaid with withdrawn stamp on fr. free endpaper, above this is sig. 'C.V.Swan' and sm.note 'duplicate', accession date also written top pastedown, top orig.t.p has sm. inoffensive oval stamp 'C.V.S.', otherwise clean, tight & unmarked internally; covers generally clean & unworn, gilt sp.title 'Corstopitum - 1913' and round impressed New College stamp bottom fr. board, v.faint lib.label ghost across bottom sp. Despite the lib marks, confined to pastedown & recto fr.endpaper (which are not, in any case, part of original publication but on C.V.Swan's - I assume - private lib.binding) this remains VG in my judgment. Corstopitum or Coria (as now prefered) was the Roman name for the Northumbrian town of Corbridge, near Hadrian's wall. Excavations began in 1906 under Leonard Woolley, this being the 6th report, Forster taking over in 1907, continuing with two further digs in 1914, 1915. These were laters followed up with further extensive digs, two by Forster and then in major projects 1933-40, 1946-73. The data in this now scarce report remains valuable. The Coria Project has now been set up fully to publish the finds of this early 'campaign'. Size: 17.5 Cms x 22 Cms.

Eight yearly reports bound together. 706pp in total, with may illustrations, some folding, one of which is torn but complete. A series of overprints bound in 1936. Although there is no title page, on the 1st free endpaper there is a handwritten explanation of these reports, being Overprints from Archaeologia Aeliana. This detailed inscription explains how the overprints were bound by the Trustees of the Corbridge Excavation Fund. Hardback, ex-library, with usual stamps and markings, in good all round condition.
