Erstausgabe
Softcover. Zustand: Very Good. First American edition, with an introduction by Daniel Berrigan. Translated by Rozenn Frère and Dennis Nurkse. Illustrated by artist and Jesuit priest Dennis Leder, as well as with a portrait of Foppa. Octavo. xi, 72pp. Three-page foreword and one-page biographical sketch in English; the cycle of poems are printed first in Spanish and then in English. Glossy wrappers. Date stamp ("Nov 88") on the bottom edge and gift inscription inside front cover. Binding with modest wear and a couple of small ink marks, tiny area of erasure on the first page and tiny stain in the top corners, very good. Alaíde Foppa de Solorzano was a Guatemalan poet, art critic, broadcaster, feminist, professor, translator, and human rights advocate. She fled Guatemala for Mexico after the coup of 1954. Returning for a visit in 1980, tragically, she was kidnappedreportedly by Guatemalan intelligenceand never seen again. This book was first published in Mexico in 1979; as Foppa disappeared in the mid-December, 1979 and Berrigan's foreword acknowledges this, we believe his foreword to be new to this edition. Both, however, are uncommon: *OCLC* locates only six copies of this edition.
