They could have imperfections such as creasing, fanning, inscriptions, margin notes, yellowing, staining on edge or cover or pages, bumps, scuffs, etc etc (sometimes multiple of these). It's a wide category that encompasses anything that isn't almost-new down to anything that is slightly better than poor. We would NOT recommend gifting Good books - these should be considered reading copies. Our books are dispatched from a Yorkshire former cotton mill. We list via barcode/ISBN so please note that the images are stock images and may not be the exact copy you receive, furthermore the details about edition and year might not be accurate as many publishers reuse the same ISBN for multiple editions and as we simply scan a barcode or enter an ISBN we do not check the validity of the edition data when listing. In den WarenkorbSoftcovers. Zustand: Very Good. First Edition Thus. 1979. New edition (first Fanfares edition). 231pp. Antonia Forest (1915-2003) was the pseudonym of Patricia Giulia Caulfield Kate Rubinstein, an English writer who is best known for her series of children's books featuring the Marlow family. The series features one contemporary generation of the Marlows, an ancient, landed family whose patriarch is a Royal Navy commander (later captain). Among eight children, all six daughters go to Kingscote, a boarding school. Peter's Room was first published in 1961, and is the fifth book in the series. In this story, The Marlow family, less their father and Giles, who are away at sea, spend their first Christmas at Trennels, the country estate they inherited following the death of their cousin Jon in an aeroplane accident. Eldest sister Kay is down from Oxford and spends most of her time closeted in the house's library and Rowan is preoccupied with her new role as farm manager. The main action of the book takes place in 'Peter's Room' - the loft of a disused outbuilding which Peter Marlow has been exploring, uncovering a variety of artefacts. Snowed in at Trennels and spurred initially by Ginty's school project on the Brontë sisters' fantasy writings, they invent a swashbuckling story set in the imagined lands of Angora and Exina. The book is bound in paperback form and is in very good condition with shelf wear to the covers and rubbing to the corner tips, spine ends and down the spine edges. There are small creases across the bottom corners. The contents are secure and clean with a name written on the inside of the front cover.

First edition. 221pp. Run Away Home is the tenth and final book in the series. In the story, on their way home from Kingscote via train, Ann, Nicky and Lawrie unexpectedly meet up with eldest brother Giles, on leave from his post in the Navy, and the siblings witness a dramatic incident involving a runaway boy. Arriving home, they discover that Mrs. Marlow must leave for Paris immediately, as their grandmother is very ill. With Captain Marlow on duty somewhere at sea, and Mrs. Marlow away, what sort of Christmas will it be for the Marlow siblings? As it turns out, their involvement with the runaway boy, Edward Oeschsli, who is determined to get home to his father in Switzerland, creates a holiday none will ever forget. The book is bound in the original blue boards with silver titling on the spine. This is an ex-library copy and has some of the usual library stamps and marks. The case of the book has bumping to the spine ends and top front corner and the spine is cocked. The contents are tight and clean apart from a few small marks and the following library indications: staining from a removed strip of tape down the fore edge of the front and rear fixed endpapers, traces of two removed labels on the front free endpaper that has caused some lifting to the paper, a large and a small stamp on the title-page with details erased that has led to thinning of the paper, and a stamp and reference numbers on the back of the title-page. The unclipped dustwrapper is very good with light shelf wear and bumping to the spine ends and top corners.

In den WarenkorbHardcover. Zustand: Very Good-. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Very Good. First Edition; First Printing. 1st edition; h/b in d/w; an ex library copy, that the previous owner took some trouble to disguise from being recognised as such! Blue boards with silver gilt lettering to spine; fep has a name (not author) and a crossing out. At the bottom of fep is a white sticker - presumably disguising a library stamp; no more stamps to prelims; rear of title page has a white sticker, quite unobtrusive, presumably disguising another library stamp. The pages are very clean, so the book has not been much read. The thing that confirmed to me it was indeed ex library, was a mark on rear of inside cover, which looked to me as if the alarm trigger has been removed - but again, very discretely. This is still a nice copy of the book, which comes in an unclipped d/w, with just a little fading to spine; vg-/vg; laid inside is a newspaper article 'Antonia Forest - Children's author who chronicled the adventures of the Marlow Family' ; Marlows; Ex-Library; Vol. 10; 8vo 8" - 9" tall.
