[Literary Journal] Three issues covering from first year of this magazine published under the stewardship of Ian Fleming and whose name appears on the title page. Vol.1, No.1 (Spring 1952), No.3 (Autumn 1952), No.4 (Winter 1952), together with publisher's insert. Publisher's Yapp edges a little worn; very good. In late 1951, The Dropmore Press, owned by Fleming's employer Lord Kemsley and in which Fleming had an interest was revamped as The Queen Anne Press. Ian Fleming was given editorial control with Percy Muir and and John Hayward as directors. Similarly, Kemsley's Book Handbook was rebranded The Book Collector with the same three men serving as the editorial board [and listed on the title page of the present number]. Kemsley soon tired of the project, and sold the journal to Fleming cheaply, resulting in Ian becoming a publisher.

First Edition. Ten monographs, SIGNED LETTERPRESS EDITIONS, being the FIRST SEPARATE PRINTING. 10 vols., slim octavo (26 x 18cm), limited variously to 60 or 120 copies, each hand-numbered (all matching numbers) and signed by James and Fergus Fleming. Finely printed on 150gsm Bockingford paper and bound in black flock-paper covers with letterpress title label, housed in a bespoke cloth solander box lined in scarlet suede, blocked in gilt 'Fry's Ornamented' type as favoured by Fleming for first edition copies of Casino Royale (1953). As new. To celebrate its 65th anniversary, The Book Collector magazine devoted its Spring 2017 issue to Ian Fleming, who had launched the publication in 1952. Essays were provided by editors old and new, family and colleagues of the author, as well as Fleming scholars, historians, bibliophiles and regular Book Collector contributors. Subsequently, fine letterpress editions were produced by Stan Lane of Gloucester Typesetting, collected and bound in hardcover or separately in softcovers. Twenty-two complete matching softcover sets (20 numbered, 2 being out-of-series) were then solander-boxed by Ludlow Bookbinders, as offered here. Signed.

Some with date and publication added in pen. Housed in clear sleeves within a card folder. Scarce group of articles about the creator of James Bond. Includes pieces written by Barry Norman (Daily Mail, 13/8/64), Rene MacColl (Daily Express, 13/8/64), Maurice Richardson (Sunday Times, 18/8/64), Rupert Butler (Daily Sun, 21/11/68), and an interview with Ian Fleming by Philip Oakes (Lilliput, October 1958). These uncommon cuttings are from the comprehensive collection of Jon Gilbert (signed on folder). His encyclopaedic guide to the works of Ian Fleming (2012) won the 16th Breslauer Prize for bibliography. Signed.

Conservation framed and glazed; in an elegant acid-neutral white card mount backed with pH neutral corri-cor barrier board beneath 2mm float glass, bespoke smooth black moulding. Approx. overall dimensions 21 x 17 inches. Fine / as new. Not intended for commercial use- this is one of only four copies printed for The Book Collector. The corresponding issue contains a comprehensive account of Ian Fleming's role in the Printing & The Mind of Man exhibition, a review of Nicholas Shakespeare's biography of Ian Fleming and a bibliography of Fleming biographies by Jon Gilbert.
