A collection of short stories and verse for children, illustrated throughout with numerous engraved full-page b/w images. No authors or illustrators are credited, a…lthough many of the engraved images contain artists initials in the frame. These include images by Henry Fitzcook (b.1824), J. Gadsby (John Gadsby, 1808-1889?), B. Fleming (Benjamin Fleming), T. Cobb, A. T. Elwes (Alfred Thomas Elwes, 1841-1917) and many others. Publisher's advertisements on the back cover. The publication date is not given, but based on the back cover, it seems to have been published some time around 1883. Binding with light rubbing to extremities. A few light scratches to the front cover, otherwise still quite clean an vibrant. back cover with a small stain near the top edge. Interior extremely clean save for a few instances of the most minor smudges to the margins of a few pages. Book block tight. Binding in very good, interior in near fine condition overall. Protected in modern mylar. Quite scarce.
