Buch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - The war in Afghanistan is considered by most to be America's longest and least talked about war to date. After terrorists attacked the United States on 9/11, less than one percent of America's population answered our nation's call to serve in the Armed Forces. Even fewer Americans made the life choi…ce to become United States Marines.During this war, two Marine Corps platoon's were selected by their Battalion to fully integrate with two platoons of Afghanistan National Army Soldier's in order to create a Combined Action Company (CAC) capable of conducting sustained Counterinsurgency (COIN) operations throughout their Area of Operation's (AO) and adjacent battlespaces. Inside of this book, you will learn about one of those platoons and how they fought the Taliban during their deployment to the Helmand Province, Afghanistan. In this memoir, Bodrog recalls how his platoon of Marines, Sailors and Afghan Soldiers lived, operated and fought in the Helmand Province, Afghanistan as part of the Combined Action Company. In doing so and translucently through the men under his command, the author attempts to immortalize every Marine, servicemen and civilian who sacrificed everything they had to ensure the survival of our great nation, while asking for nothing in return. The missions and stories mentioned in this memoir must never be forgotten or become a lost chapter in our nation's history.Discover what it's like to be one of the bold few who still fight for freedom and gain a deeper appreciation of the Marines and Sailors who served this great nation with Second Platoon: Call Sign Hades.

In den WarenkorbZustand: Good. - 18 words penned in black ink on both sides of a 4-1/2 inch high by 3-5/8 inch wide sheet of United Service Club letterhead with the club's raised insignia printed in blind at top left. Signed in the opening of the letter: "Sir Fenwick Williams regrets." with the place and date at the foot of the note: "U.S.C. /…14th June". A strip of document tape has been mounted down the right edge of the verso, covering up 1 word of the note. Good. Williams writes regretting he is unable to dine with Mrs. Ford because of a previous engagement. The note is accompanied by a newspaper obituary.General Sir William Fenwick Williams, 1st Baronet of Kars [1800-1883] was born in Nova Scotia. He was a renowned military leader for the British during the Victorian era, remembered for his gallant defense of the town of Kars during the Crimean War. He and other British officers inspired the poorly equipped Turkish soldiers to repel Russian attacks for three months. Starvation and lack of ammunition finally forced them to surrender, but they did so on their own terms. Williams was imprisoned but was treated very well and was released when the war ended in 1856. A knighthood, a baronetcy with a pension for life and many other honors were bestowed on Williams for his actions. From 1865 to 1867 he was the first Lieutenant Governor of his birth province of Nova Scotia.

In den WarenkorbSoft cover. Zustand: Good. A pocket sized ready reference work issued to Platoon Commanders on the Western Front. Staple-bound self-wraps 11x14cm. 8pp printed on blue card by H&S in a run of 10,000 copies, dated 12/15 in their code. Good, dulled with staining to the front, staples rusting. The First Army was formed out of the Br…itish Expeditionary Force in December 1914 from the I, IV and Indian Corps under Lieutenant-General Douglas Haig. (General Henry Rawlinson replaced Haig on 22 December 1915 when he was promoted to Commander-in-Chief BEF). In the Battle of Neuve Chapelle (March 1915), the First Army succeeded in capturing the village and advancing 2km with around 7,000 British and 4,200 Indian lives lost. Analysis in the immediate aftermath found the German trenches to be vulnerable to well planned attack, the First Army's command system disintegrated quickly and its telephone system was vulnerable, subordinates failed to grasp Haig's intentions, movements along communication trenches were delayed, units in need of assistance did not receive it, etc. This booklet, issued following those experiences, asks 37 questions. The first two in capital letters, and the last repeating the first are broad in nature: "1 and 37. I am here for two purposes - to do as much damage as possible to the enemy and to hold my part of the line at all costs. Am I doing everything possible to ensure my being able to do this? // 2. Do I worry the enemy as much as I might do, and are the sniper-scopes, rifle grenades, catapults and patrols at my disposal organised in the best way to effect this purpose?". The rest focus on strengthening the line, counter-attack, support, positions, unnecessary exposure, sentries, messages to HQ, knowledge of duties, snipers, absolute silence and relief, navigation, telephone location, intelligence gathering, approaching the enemy, SOS and gas messages, gas attack, smoke and tube helmets, bullet proofing, defensive wiring, drainage, ability to effect repairs without help from the Royal Engineers, weather proof sleeping arrangements, hygiene, bomb and ammunition stores, maintenance, trench feet, wearing required equipment, use of notice boards and other non-stores items as firewood, authorised drinking water sources, knowing every NCOs name and them knowing yours, sufficient sleep, periscopes, and issuing rum. This looks to be extremely rare, with Worldcat and Library Hub listing later editions c1916-17 including by the US Army. It was part of a series with other booklets covering questions before an attack, and when the object of an attack has been gained.

In den WarenkorbZustand: Very good. - sc - 25 words penned on 7-1/8 inch high by 4-1/2 inch wide light blue paper with an attached leaf. There is an attractive embossed mark at top left of the sheet. Admiral Walker has penned a few brief words addressed to Richard Ford and his wife, accepting a dinner invitation. Penned by the Admiral, the note… is signed in the first line: "Sir Baldwin Walker will do himself the honor of dining with." Folded for mailing, the note is tipped from the verso of the attached leaf onto creamy stiff paper mount. Near fine. Admiral Sir Baldwin Wake Walker (1802-1876) was first lieutenant of the bomb ship Aetna at the attack on Morea castle during the Morea expedition. By special permission of the admiralty, he accepted a command in the Turkish Navy in 1838 where he was known as Walker Bey and subsequently as Yavir Pasha. He commanded the Turkish squadron which bombarded Acre in November of 1840 and was awarded the designation of Knight Commander of the Bath, the Austrian Order of the Iron Crown (2nd class), the Russian Order of St. Anna and the Prussian Order of the Red Eagle. Returning to England, he was appointed Surveyor of the Navy, a position he held from 1848 to 1861, and later made 1st baronet Wake Walker, of Oakley House. He was appointed to several commands and vice-admiralty before being promoted to Admiral in 1870.From the autograph collection of Mrs. Mary Ford, widow of Richard Ford who wrote the popular "Handbook for Travellers in Spain".
