Second edition Giolithina, rare, of the vulgarization of the Historia de Cerisel y Mirabella with the dispute of Torellas y Braçayda (Seville, 1524), work of the diplomat and writer Juan de Flores (Seville, 1470 ca-1525 ca) destined to wide luck in all the course of the Renaissance. The novella, fully inscribed in the genre of the sentimental novel defined and studied by Menéndez y Pelayo, is influenced by Bocconi echoes and was widely used as a source of diegetics by various writers: from Ariosto for the episode of the Orlando of the Furioso, from Lope de Vega for La ley ejecutada, from John Fletcher for Women pleas'd and from Scudéry for Le prince déguisé. Bongi, I, 212: Rare edition no less than the other of 1543, hence it differs in that the dedicatory of the translator has been omitted.n Grisel and Mirabella, third-person narration is combined with debates that sustain the thematic structure and provide different points of view. The fate of the two lovers of the love fable depends on the result of a dialectical and public debate maintained by representatives of each sex. Mirabella, the only daughter of the King of Scotland, falls in love with her beauty to the knights of the kingdom, who die in the duels they elicit in order to obtain the love of the princess. The King, in fear of losing honor and vassals, orders to lock his daughter in a hidden place. However, two gentlemen manage to see it, fall in love, beat each other. Mirabella surrenders to Grisel, the winner. After a few days of secret love, both lovers are reported to the King by the friend of Mirabella's waitress. One night, Grisel being in bed with Mirabella, the King arrests them and refers the case to justice. The laws of Scotland determined for these cases that the one who caused more was the other of having loved that he should suffer death and the other, exile for his whole life. Questioned to determine which of the two was more guilty, Grisel and Mirabella engage in a fight of generosity in which, alternatively, each of them makes the blame fall on himself. As it has not been possible to dictate a sentence, a new trial is resorted to. Grisel is defended by Torrellas, while Brazaida will defend Mirabella. The Royal Council will find this guilty and, therefore, the female sex. The princess, condemned to the stake, is saved by Grisel, who throws himself into the flames and gives him the last service. A few days the desperate princess survives her beloved. One night (.) I went in a shirt to a window that looked at a corral where the King had some lions, and among them he let himself fall. Torrellas, responsible according to the Queen of the death of his daughter, falls in love with Brazaida and, deceived by her, goes to a date, which will be used by the women of the court to kill him amid cruel torments.
