Engraved title-page, index, double-page engraved double-hemisphere map of the world, and 59 full-page maps, all with original hand-colour and engraved Young & Delleker (some spotting and offsetting). Original half red morocco, speckled boards, printed paper label on the front cover (quite worn). Provenance: Inscribed to Elizabeth Rodman Fisher from her father dated 1824 on the front free endpaper. First edition, second issue with the Index listing the Eastern Hemisphere as plate 2, and Rhode Island as plate 11. An important American atlas with two maps of the world (one double-page), full-page maps of North America, Canada, the United States (San Francisco Bay is called "Bay of Sr. F. Drake," and the Buenaventura River extends all the way from Lake Salado), Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee, Indiana, Illinois, Mississippi, Louisiana, Missouri, Mexico, West Indies, and South America as well as the rest of the world, and two comparative plates of mountains and rivers. An engraver, map and atlas publisher in Philadelphia, Finley also published his atlas in pocket form; the plates were later re-used by S. Augustus Mitchell from 1831. Catalogued by Kate Hunter.
