Der Autor analysiert die Lagererfahrungen von polnischen Überlebenden aus der Perspektive autobiografischer Erzählungen, die großteils im Rahmen des Mauthausen Survivors Documentation Project in den Jahren 2001-2003 mit Überlebenden des KZ-Komplexes Mauthausen-Gusen aufgenommen wurden. Der Historiker und Soziologe Piotr Filipkowski ist Mitarbeiter des Instituts für Soziologie und Philosophie an der Polnischen Akademie der Wissenschaften. Er hat selbst an diesem Projekt mitgewirkt und mehr als 30 Interviews mit polnischen Überlebenden geführt. Seine Erfahrungen fließen in die Tiefenanalyse der erzählten Erinnerungen ein. Die Berücksichtigung kultureller und sozialer Rahmenbedingungen ermöglicht ein vielschichtiges Bild individueller polnischer Lagererfahrungen.
