Single sheet folded, written on two pages, 140 x 90 mm, on 11 Melbury Road, Kensington headed paper. Old folds, otherwise very good. Fildes encloses a cheque for a dinner ticket, explaining that he had previously declined because he expected to be unable to attend, but now wishes to "take my chance of that." He adds that Woods is in Venice and would also have applied for a ticket had he been at home, most likely fellow artist Henry Woods.  Sir Luke Fildes was a prominent Victorian painter and illustrator and a member of the Savage Club, the celebrated London gentlemen's club founded for figures from the worlds of literature and the arts.…

Although unsure whether the periodical reviewed medical books, he explains that the work approaches its subject from a popular point of view and asks whether Locker might submit it to the paper's medical critic for an opinion. An excellent association letter between Fildes and Arthur Locker (1828-1893), the novelist, journalist and editor of The Graphic, for which Fildes had produced some of his most important early illustrations. He has no copying work available at present, but adds that when the question of copies of The King's State Portrait arises he will consider the recipient's application. The portrait referred to was Fildes's monumental State Portrait of King George V, painted in 1911-12 and exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1912. The most interesting portraits are accompanied by a description of the painting and biographies of the artist and of the sitter. Among these are a portrait of Lord Milne by Leonard Boden (1911-1999), a portrait of King Edward VII by Sir Luke Fildes (1843-1927), and a portrait of Sir Hew Ross by Sir Francis Grant (1803-1878). In a quarter cloth binding and the original paper wraps. Externally very smart, though a little sunned to the extremities, with some faint marks to the rear of the paper wrap.
