Er behandelt dann die britischen, französischen, spanischen, portugiesischen und holländischen Kolonien in der Neuen Welt sowie die europäischen Besitzungen in Afrika und im Fernen Osten. Der abschließende Teil des Bandes zeigt u. a. die Umwandlung des British Empire in das Commonwealth of Nations in unserem Jahrhundert, ferner die nationalen Bestrebungen in den einzelnen Kolonialgebieten, die nach 1945 zur Krise des Kolonialismus und zur Entstehung unabhängiger Staaten in Afrika und Asien führten.
