In den WarenkorbHardcover. Zustand: g+ to vg. First edition. Quarto (11 3/4 x 8 3/4"). xvi, [2], 45, [3]pp (Text), 46 leaves (Plates). Modern 3/4 black cloth over blue paper covered boards, with gold lettering to spine. Since the publication of Albert T. Clay's "Miscellanous Inscriptions in the Yale Babylonian Collection, as volume one of this…series, in 1915, the number of votive and historical Babylonian and Assyrian inscriptions at Yale has steadily increased. These pieces have been acquired by purchase from antiquity dealers throughout the periods of curatorship of the late Professor Clay, the late Dr. Grice, the late Professor Dougherty, and (since 1933) the writer. Part of the hitherto unpublished acquisitions are new texts, and part are duplicates of already published texts, with more or less variation from the published readings. It is the purpose of this volume to present all unpublished texts of the Yale Babylonian Collection, whether new or duplicate, belonging to the category indicated by the title. The texts are divided into two groups according to the method by which they are presented. The first group, Nos. 1-86, contains all the new texts, and some duplicates of known texts. They are presented in authographed copy, and in the first half of the Descriptive Catalogue. The second group, Nos. 87-149, will be found only in the second half of the Descriptive Catalogue. It has sometimes been difficult to decide whether an authographed copy of a duplicate inscription should be made. In the case of some important texts this has been done, but in most cases it has been thought sufficient to give accurate descriptions of the duplicate texts, including their variant readings. Chronologically, the texts cover almost the entire range of Babylonian and Assyrian history. The names of many well known rulers, and some less well known appear in both groups of texts. The names of two rulers, otherwise unknown to history, will be found; these are Nidnusha and Hashmargalshu. In the main the texts will be found to be arranged in chronological order within the two groups. Moderate rubbing to head and tail of spine. Ex-library copy with bookplate on inside of front cover, typed information on inside of back cover, and stamp at top and bottom edges. Binding in overall good+, interior in very good condition.
