Hardcover. Zustand: Good. 1st Edition. Albumen print on card mount. Print measures 6 1/2 by 8 1/4 and mount is 8 by 11 1/2 inches. A memorial image of the then recently assassinated Abraham Lincoln embracing George Washington in heaven while the latter holds a laurel crown over his head. This print is based on a painting by the portrait painter and etcher, Stephen James Ferris. One usually encounters this image as a carte de visite. It is unusual to find one in this large format. Under the photo is printed: Entered according to Act of Congress in the year 1865 by J.A. Arthur in the Clerk's Office of the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. There is nothing printed on the verso of the mount. The photo is in good condition with a few small white marks at the right side. The mount is browned and worn with some creasing to the upper left edge and a small chip mark at the top.

Tight and VG+ to Near Fine (light offsetting at the pastedowns and endsheets, mild foxing along the fore-edge) in a crisp, VG+ to Near Fine example of the price-intact ($2.00) dustjacket, with very mild spotting at the rear flap. Also includes the scarce printed wraparound band AND the publisher's original pictorial box, which is completely sturdy and very presentable. Octavo, nicely illustrated throughout by J.L.G. Ferris and Edwin John Prittie. (From the dustjacket covers: "The True Story of the Romantic Life of the Maker of the First American Flag", and "Do You Know That 'Betsy Ross: Quaker Rebel' is the only bioography of this colonial heroine ever published and that the facts of her life are here given for the first time by one of her descendants, from family records?") A sharp, especially attractive copy with the addition of its uncommon wraparound band and original box.
