Inscription in pencil to front endpaper. Very light water stain to margins of pages in second half of book. Pages very lightly browned. First gathering pulled at hinges and slightly misaligned. Closed tear to gutter edges of first gathering. Prelims almost detached. Pictorial dustwrapper is slightly grubby with a few light stains, chipped at corners with a few small edge-tears. Difficult to find in good condition due to paper used being of poor quality, this is an exceptionally bright copy, rare in original wrapper. Packaged with care and promptly dispatched. Arthur Rackham (1867-1939) is perhaps the most acclaimed and influential illustrators of the Golden Age of Illustration. A prolific artist even from his youth, Rackham got his start as an illustrator working for the Westminster Budget Newspaper (1892). Over the next few years, he took on more and more commissions for children's books, hitting his career high in the first three decades of the twentieth century.
