The first edition of this work in the publisher's original cloth binding, with the original price-clipped dust wrapper. Bookplate to the front paste down. In his account of the mythology of birds, Brown uses literary and historical sources to create a delightful exploration of folklore, legends and old beliefs about birds, from the eagle to the woodpecker. Illustrated with a frontispiece and many full-page wood engravings by John Farleigh (1900-1965), notable for his illustrations for George Bernard Shaw's The Adventures of the Black Girl in Her Search for God and for the posters he designed for London Transport.
