Zustand: Wie Neu. Zustandsbeschreibung: leicht bestoßen/slightly bumped. On occasion of the exhibition "Ursula Von Rydingsvard: The Contour of Feeling" at The Fabric Workshop and Museum, 27.04.2018-26.08.2018, Philadelphia, PA, USA. Guest-curated by Mark Rosenthal, this exhibition catalog illuminates van Rydingsvard's artistic development since 2000, examining her predilection for emotionally charged, visceral art that is hand-wrought, richly complex, and monumentally scaled. Featuring more than twenty-five sculptures that highlight the artist's evolution, as well as a new leatherwork sculpture created in collaboration with the Fabric Workshop and Museum, an extensive interview between Mark Rosenthal and the artist, and an essay by von Rydingsvard titled "Why I Make Art," the book provides a window into the artist's unique synthesis of emotional fragility and imposing scale. 127 Seiten mit 82 Farbabb., Großformat, gebunden (Hirmer Verlag 2018). In den WarenkorbNo Binding. Zustand: Very Good. Joyce Martin (illustrator). FIRST EDITION & FIRST PRINTING. Joyce Martin. -MARTIN, Joyce. HOME FROM THE FRONT. Original Mixed-Media Artwork from the "Home Series" with Companion Interpretation Panel, Artist's Booklet "Fabric and Daydreams" and Provenance Archive. c.1982-1986. A unique and apparently unpublished mixed-media artwork by the British artist Joyce Martin, created between 1982 and 1986 as part of her ambitious "Home Series", a body of work exploring the many meanings of home through narrative textile sculpture, printmaking, embroidery and ceramic elements. The archive comprises three principal items: The original framed mixed-media artwork "Home From The Front". The companion framed interpretation panel containing a photograph of the artwork together with the poem "Home From The Front", credited to Joyce Martin with script by T. McPhail. The scarce illustrated artist's booklet, "Fabric and Daydreams", documenting Joyce Martin's life, artistic development and a substantial number of her known works. The principal artwork measures approximately 42 inches wide by 36 inches high and depicts the return of wounded servicemen from the First World War. At the centre of the composition a wounded soldier is supported by a Red Cross nurse whilst being reunited with his family within a busy railway station. Numerous additional figures populate the scene, including nurses, stretcher bearers, policemen, civilians and injured veterans. The work is executed in a combination of textile sculpture, embroidery, printmaking, ceramics and painted elements. The handmade figures project dramatically from the picture surface, creating a striking three-dimensional effect. A movable clock forms part of the composition and many individual components have been meticulously handcrafted. A handwritten provenance note affixed to the reverse records that Joyce Martin created more than thirty such works between 1982 and 1986, each requiring approximately three months or more to complete. The note further identifies this example as part of the artist's "Home Series", which included works entitled Late Home, Safe Home, Home From The Front, No Home, Homeless, Home Is Best, Last Home and Eternal Home. The archive retains additional provenance recording that the artwork was given by Simon Martin to Lela Hughes on 26 April 1993. Particularly important is the inclusion of the artist's booklet "Fabric and Daydreams", featuring a biographical account of Joyce Martin's life and artistic career together with photographs and descriptions of numerous related works including Genesis, The Tutor, The Magician, Celtic Dream, Frog Prince, Hedgerows Forever, The Christmas Present, The Wedding and others. The booklet places "Home From The Front" within the wider context of Martin's artistic output and serves as valuable documentary evidence for the surviving work. Condition: The principal artwork remains complete and displays well. Expected dust accumulation and minor age-related wear to some of the projecting textile elements. Companion framed interpretation panel in very good condition. The booklet shows handling wear and ageing consistent with use, including some adhesive residue from period mounting of photographs. Overall a remarkably complete surviving archive relating to an apparently unique artwork. A rare opportunity to acquire a documented work by Joyce Martin together with its associated interpretive material, artist's booklet and provenance. The survival of the complete archive substantially enhances both the historical interest and research value of the piece. Ships worldwide -.
