This work covers the origins, topography, discovery, clearance, and present day survey of the Aden Tanks, drawing on the work of Captain Stafford Haines (who surveyed the Arabian coast in 1835 and saw practical use in restorating the tanks), and Brigadier WM Coughlan (Political Resident, Aden) and Captain RL Playfair (Deputy) who engaged in their restoration in 1856.
