Mowat (1934-2017) was the preeminent Shakespearean scholar of recent decades. Her legacy lives on in her essays, scholarly articles, and numerous consortium institutions which she helped establish. She was the editor of the Folger Shakespeare Editions and a passionate scholar. Many items in her personal collection have been inscribed by the authors and may include notations by Mowat herself.
