In den WarenkorbSoft cover. Zustand: Very Good. "This booklet has been prepared in order to make the long journey from Middle East to England more interesting by telling you something about the places that you will pass through or near" (p3). Original staple-bound blue, black and white wraps featuring a wraparound pictorial route map 14x15cm. Printed by The Printing and Stationery Services, MEF in September 1945 (9-45). 16pp including wraps, a second double-page route map, and several attractive illustrations in-text. Good or better, tanned and spotted. This looks to be extremely rare, with Library Hub locating 1 copy at the National Archives. Worldcat does not record it. MEDLOC (or Middle East Direct Line of Communication) was established to return troops to the UK by the overland route. This booklet was issued for those being discharged, or on leave. On the latter, MEF Commander-in-Chief Bernard Paget distinguishes in his opening statement between "Liaps" (Leave In Advance of Python) and "Lilops" (Leave In Lieu of Python), where "Python" related to the system of home leave based on length of service overseas. As shown on the cover map, the route involved travelling through the Mediterranean by boat from Port Said to Toulon (via Crete, Malta, Lipari, Pantelleria, Sardinia and Corsica), thence by train to Dieppe. The interior map details the rail journey "Across France" with food stops at Bram near Carcassonne and at Neuvy Pailloux, with the ultimate destination at Newhaven. The texts describe the Mediterranean cruise, Napoleon's first victory (Toulon), cypresses and trade (Toulon to Marseilles), song writers of Provence, the Romans, the fortress at Carcassonne, a British victory (Toulouse), etc, including a "glimpse of Paris", and finally Newhaven "where thousands, who have gone abroad as holidaymakers, have landed before you". The in-text illustrations to the bottom corner of each page give traveller's eye impressions of the route with mileages.

A narrative account of the Iraqi government's organized attempt to eradicate the Kurds living in northern Iraq, this report captures in riveting detail the multiple phases of the Anfal campaign. Anfal, meaning "the spoils, "is the name of the eighth sura of the Koran. It is also the name given by the Iraqis to a series of military actions that lasted from February 23 until September 6, 1988. Relying in part on previously unpublished Iraqi government documents captured by Kurdish rebels during the Gulf War, Genocide in Iraq reveals a meticulously organized campaign incorporating prison camps, firing squads and chemical attacks.

Years of speculation about Warburton's fate came to an end in 2002, when his remains were found with his aircraft, buried about 2 yards deep in a field near the Bavarian village of Egling an der Paar, 34 miles west of Munich. Personal photograph album of a voyage on the M.S. City of Rayville from Port Said to India and Burma. 61 black and white photographs neatly annotated each measuring 6.5 x 8.5cm. Original covers have been replaced with rather amateur cork covers and unlettered cloth tape spine. Some photographs are marked and stained but generally a very interesting album. The album bears the name Nicholas Kyryczuk on the first leaf. It appears that Kyryczuk was a sailor on board the MS City of Rayville, (5,833 tons owned by American Pioneer Lines) an American registered freighter which was sunk by a German mine off Cape Otway on the south coast of Victoria in November 1940. The MS City of Rayville holds the dubious distinction of being the first US vessel sunk during World War II and having the first US seaman to be killed in the war among her crew. Loosely inserted in the album are two Australian newspaper clippings with stories about the sinking. Although this album covers a period before the sinking it is interesting nonetheless for the great interest that the photographer showed in the ports visited and the locals they observed.

Two 4to files of ca. 30 leaves each, including distress signal code tables, tips for forced landings, colour-printed route maps, radio beacon maps, emergency airfield maps (folded), and double-sided airfield leaves dedicated to single airfields along the designated route. Original printed wrappers. Perforated and handbound with cords. Two air route books for pilots of the Royal Air Force flying from Cairo to Karachi during World War II, "designed to help [them] to execute flights vital to our fronts in all theatres of war. The information which [they] contain is therefore also of use to the enemy, and must be safeguarded at all times" (p. 1). - The books are in fact useful guides to airports along the way, the plans depicting airfields in Egypt (Cairo West, Almaza, Payne, Heliopolis, Lydda and Luxor), as well as in Bahrein, Sharjah, Jiwani, Karachi, Wadi Halfa, Khartoum, Sheikh Othman, Khormaksar, Riyan and other places. For each airfield general information like coordinates, the length of the runways, the nature of ground signals, existing hangars, repair and fuel facilities, expectable weather conditions, distances to other places, radio aids, and local currency, as well as timetables of morning and evening twilight are given. The folding plans show emergency airfields in Egypt, Palestine and Syria, Iraq, Persia, and the Arabian Gulf area, as well as the routes between the Middle East and India. - Further, the booklets include instructions on what to do after a forced landing in unknown territory, advising to ration water and attract attention of rescue aircraft through a spread-out parachute or fires, including the order: "Don't drink the compass alcohol". - There is no standard collation for the books, as they were added to with monthly supplements. With the handwritten note "Compiled 21.2.45" as well as a signature to inner covers. The "from" and "to" fields on the title-pages (i.e., the front covers) are filled out by the same hand. - Covers show some small creases and edge tears; a few small ruststains, but on the whole well-preserved specimens from wartime Royal Air Force use.
