Pages 281 to 329, contents page, frontispiece chronological map of Edinburgh, 9 black and white views, and 10 folding maps following the text. There are xxiv pages of advertisements at the start of the book and advertisements numbered xxv to xxxi…v at the end. The Scottish Geographical Magazine first appeared in 1885, and from 1999 has been known as The Scottish Geographical Journal. It publishes scholarly articles, international in scope, of original research in all areas of geography and on any part of the world, with emphasis on issues relating to Scotland. This issue is devoted to Edinburgh and contains the following articles: Beginnings of a Survey of Edinburgh by Professor P. Geddes, pp.281-298; Primitive Edinburgh by F. C. Mears, pp.298- 315; The Early Views and Maps of Edinburgh by William Cowan and Harry R. G. Inglis, pp.315- 327; and The "Edinburgh" Number: An Editorial Epilogue, pp. 328-329. The magazine was originally issued in grey card covers with green titling, which have been retained, and recently rebacked and recased in new blue cloth covered boards with gold titling on the spine. The new case of the book is in excellent condition. The original card covers have expected shellf wear with some soiling and a little foxing. The pages are clean apart from a few light marks and some scattered light foxing. The folding maps also show some foxing and some have a little mis-folding. As mentioned above, the frontispiece map is now loose. A piece is missing from the top corner of the first page of advertisements at the start of the book. There is no inscription.
