Zustand: as new. [Amsterdam : Art Affairs], 2014. CD-Rom in original case. - 3 Minute film about the creation of the sculpture 'Habakuk' : (Hommage to Max Ernst) by EWerdt Hilgemann (1938-). The sculpture Habakuk (Hommage to Max Ernst) by Ewerdt Hilgemann is a striking example of his signature "implosion" technique, in which he removes the air from geometric shapes made of stainless steel, causing them to deform according to natural laws. This 6.5-meter-high sculpture consists of three stacked cubes that, after the implosion, take on a dynamic, organic form. The sharp angles and curves are reminiscent of a bird's head, directly referencing the work of the surrealist artist Max Ernst. Hilgemann's New York Project, titled Moments in a Stream, took place in the summer of 2014 on Park Avenue. Seven of his implosion sculptures were exhibited between 52nd and 67th Street, including Habakuk. These works, ranging in height from 2.5 to 6 meters, were created specifically for this location and reflect the tension between geometric perfection and the unpredictable forces of nature. Habakuk was later also exhibited in Chicago and Los Angeles, where it was prominently placed on the Avenue of the Stars in Century City. Portfolio by the German-Dutch artist Ewerdt Hilgemann, who is particularly known for his so-called implosions of the 1980s - the artist slowly pulls the air out of geometrically pure stainless steel forms with a vacuum pump, putting the natural atmospheric pressure to sculptural use and collapsing the forms into their final shape. Hilgemann?s earlier work of the 1960s and 1970s deals similarly with aspects of surface textures, with relief panels and prints simiilar in style to Schoonhoven, experimenting with subtle, white wooden wall pieces catching the angled light. Hilgemann showed his work at the ?Serielle Formationen? (?Serial Formations?) exhibition, jointly curated by Peter Roehr and Paul Maenz for the Frankfurter Universität?s studio gallery in 1967. This series of five embossed prints is a prime example of Hilgemann?s Minimalist style, and was published in an edition of 50 numbered copies, with each of the five prints numbered, dated and signed by Hilgemann in pencil on versos. Some browning to plates, especially along sheet edge.
