ill. OPappband. / Hardcover. 1. Aufl. This is the first major monograph on the intriguing artist Inci Eviner. Eviner has always maintained her unique artistic stance in the practice of contemporary art both in Turkey and beyond. Her practice embraces drawing, objects and video. Prolific, varied and deliberately unclassifiable, Eviner combines the conscious with the unconscious, the psychic with the public, the already-represented with the not-yet-represented. Her works suspend the established deeds of the legalistic or patriarchal society; they drive the established order towards a breaking point, exploring the possibilities of new forms of existence. Zustand: New. This artist's book comprises selected drawings by Inci Eviner and the poetic texts she wrote in Büyükada, Istanbul, in 20232024, in a reflexive conversation with each drawing. Known for her work across various mediums such as drawing, video, performance, sculpture, and installation, Eviner, with this book, invites readers to explore her creative universe through her drawings and the accompanying texts that she crafted as if conversing with them. Published in two separate language editions, Turkish and English, the book is enriched by Eviner's design concept and Ruslan Abasov's design. Lying at the centre of Inci Eviner's creative practice, drawing, for the artist, serves both as a means of expressing the unconscious and a tool for exploring her concepts. It is a space where the interplay between the conscious and unconscious can unfold, revealing the complex entanglement between the societal and the psychic. It also serves as the foundation upon which she discovers and develops new ideas, forms, and spatial constructs. Rooted in this foundation and continuously evolving with a boundless visual language, her work questions and challenges the forms of social, historical, and discursive representations and the underlying norms behind them. In Behind It Something Intimate, Eviner engages in a dialogue with her drawings and expands the multi-layered world that shapes them in a textual space that she shares with the readers. 19x27 cm. This artist monograph seeks to reflect the living ecosystem of Inci Eviner's work an interconnected network that remains in a constant state of becoming. The book opens onto the artist's ever-expanding visual language and distinctive aesthetic sensibility, rooted in drawing and multiplied through other media, including moving image, performance, sculpture, and text. Together, these works form a relational, associative field that continually dismantles and reconstructs itself, communicating both with or beyond the artist, among themselves. Conceived as an extension of Eviner's practice, the monograph is not organised by medium, chronology or thematic headings. Instead, it encounters readers and viewers as a series of doorways, each opening onto another, foregrounding Eviner's ongoing construction of her artistic identity as a journey in perpetual motion. The volume includes an in-depth interpretation of Eviner's drawings by curator and art writer Roger Malbert, and of her moving-image works by curator, filmmaker, and art critic Heinz Peter Schwerfel. Between these doorways, it also gives space to Eviner's own words texts in which she at times confronts herself as an artist, articulates these confrontations, and interrogates her works rather than confining them to rigid categories. Uniquely designed within the book, the 'Co-Action Device' section, on the other hand, showcases the practices of the 'school' established by Inci Eviner, as they unfolded at different moments, while she explored fundamental questions about her artistic practice and the intersection of art and education both as an academic and an artist. 384 pages.

Zustand: New. We, Elsewhere, a new work by Inci Eviner will be presented in the Pavilion of Turkey at the 58th Venice Biennale, to be held from May 11 through November 24, 2019. Organised by the Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts (IKSV) and sponsored by Fiat, the Pavilion of Turkey will be curated by Zeynep Öz and located at Sale d'Armi, which is one of the main exhibition venues of the Venice Biennale. We, Elsewhere is created as a site-specific installation for the Pavilion of Turkey at the 58th Venice Biennale and makes use of elements such as reconfigured objects as well as drawings, video, sound, and performance. It is an investigation into the spaces that we create, and are created for us as a result of collective displacement. The exhibition ruminates on how subjects who find themselves in these spaces react and interact with one another and with their memories. Various elements of sound, reconfigured objects and characters crafted by Eviner evoke the sense of a search for the missing, the erased and that which is elsewhere. A certain aggression and abruptness comes out in the characters' everyday behaviour informing their identities in transition. The space itself, in which visitors are invited to walk along the ramps, courtyards and edges, displays permeability, allowing views through cuts and cracks along the walls. The paths punctuated by the objects suggest the way in which memory eases conflicts. Together, the characters, the space and the paths tell a story akin to Hannah Arendt's narrative of struggles in We Refugees. Editors: Translator: 160 pages.
