The lengthy blank verse poem, reflecting on the landscape of the countryside, was highly influential and much liked for over a century after its writing. Written by James Thomson, a Scottish poet and playwright. With a life of the author written by John Evans, a Welsh Baptist minister. In the original half crushed morocco binding with marbled boards. Externally, sound with rubbing to the extremities and light fading to the spine. The odd small mark to the boards with light loss to the board tip of the front board. Internally, firmly bound with a tear to the front endpaper. Pages are very bright with the odd spot and light age toning. Good. book.

The Vicar of Wakefield was originally published in 1766 and was one of the most read 18th century novels read among Victorians. Illustrated, with a frontispiece, engraved title page and five plates. In a full morocco binding with rubbing to the spine and joints. Crack to the front joint. Rubbing to raised bands is heavy. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are age toned. Spotting throughout, heaviest to the introduction section and to the final plates. Good. book.
