A fascinating, custom-bound composite library set containing 14 individual single-play printings from the celebrated "The British Theatre" and companion series compiled with critical prefaces by the pioneering female dramatist Mrs. Elizabeth Inchbald. The original theatrical scene plates accompanying these printings were designed by noted British painters Henry Singleton, George Romney, Thomas Stothard, and Howard, and brought to life by master engravers James Heath, James Fittler, Charles Warren, and Evans. These editions include "Remarks" by Mrs. Elizabeth Inchbald, a prominent 18th-century actress, playwright, and novelist who edited many theatrical works. Theatrical Connection: It was printed "from the prompt book" of the Theatre Royal, Covent Garden, indicating it reflects the version of the play as it was actually performed on stage during that period.
