In 1815 he travelled again to Italy to collect fresh materials, but he was seized with malaria at Naples and died there. In the publisher's original paper covered boards. Minor losses of paper to back strip heads and tails, with more significant loss to volume II back strip, with rubbing to back strips and boards. Front joint heads starting, with boards a touch tender. Rear hinges strained, with boards similarly tender. Internally, lightly strained throughout. In 1813 the publication of this work, his Classical Tour Through Italy, obtained for him sudden celebrity, and he became a prominent figure in literary society. The fourth revised edition of this work, which includes a description of the excavations of Pompeii, subsequent to the author's tour, and a list of the most celebrated inns in Italy. In half paper vellum. Externally smart, though spines and corners are a little soiled, as is usual with vellum. Vol III and IV are a little bumped to the rear board. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright and clean, with a scattering of spots to the first and last few pages. Very Good. book.
