Soft cover. Zustand: Very Good. 1st Edition. Scarce inaugural issue of this journal Dot Zero which contains work and essays on the nature of design and visual communication from some of the best thinkers of the time, including Herbert Bayer, Bruno Munari, Marshall Mcluhan and others in this issue. Generally excellent condition, the interior being quite fresh, bright, and clean. The bindin is quite solid and sturdy. The white covers with embossed circle designs are unevenly toned around the edges and have some rubbng and dust soiling that is to be expected - but they are now covered in custom cut mylar and should stay free of further soiling. The back has one long diagonal line of discoloration that may be from the nature of its storage. There is a shallow but pronounced crease to the back cover as well and a teeny tiny chip to the paper at the very bottom of the back cover. Altogether quite attractive still.

Zustand: As is. 24 panels, between stiff front and back boards. A panel is approximately 8.5 inches by 17.5 inches. 238 inches in length. Separated at one fold, but complete and can be professionally repaired. Art/imagery on both sides of the flowing sheet. This may be one of the work in progress developmental pieces/stages, since it is unnumbered and does not appear to have all the vibrant colors seen in images of numbered copies on the internet. Together with this is a article on Feldman's Experimental Prints, which is six panels on a 25.5 inch by 11 inch sheet with text and imagery on each side. Eugene Feldman was an artist who's innovative and influential use of offset lithography as a fine arts form opened up new possibilities in the medium. By manipulating visual images using print technology available at the time, Feldman pushed the boundaries between offset lithography, collage and photography. Feldman was the founder of Falcon Press in Philadelphia and Professor of Fine Arts at the University of Pennsylvania. He was active in Philadelphia from the early 1950's until his death in 1975. From a University of Illinois Arts Study Collection brief study, Experimental Prints: Researches in Offset Lithography by Eugene Feldman from 1978, we learned that in his prints of the New York skyline, Mr. Feldman used negatives made at different exposures, and through different filters, and by successive printing in color builds rich, mysterious images out of an ordinary scene. Eugene Feldman in 1964: "Man can make art with a machine; offset press and hand press alike can be his brushes. I try to use my machines as a painter does his brushes. My inks are my paints and the paper my canvas. In graphics, as in any other craft or art, respect for the materials is necessary. I think this respect leads to a desire to explore, to learn what the juxtaposition of type, line, color, space and photograph can create. I'm not sure just where this desire to experiment comes from or why I do it. The pleasure of trying to discover, I suppose, though that doesn't seem an adequate explanation. But I do know that I have a compulsion to probe into the relationship of the elements of printing to each other, to change these relationships and to rearrange them to experiment with the process. Machines, the offset press as much as the hand press, are the extensions of man's hands and talents. Certainly twenty years from now our techniques will be different. Printing might well be done electronically, but its design and composition will continue to offer aesthetic challenges. The materials, whether they be lead type or an electronic tube will be equally worthy of respect." Hardcover with accordion paging-- printed on one continuous sheet with multiple folds Stated Limited Edition, one of 250 [unnumbered]. But this may be a 'work in progress' piece.
