Pot-Pourri From a Surrey Garden, third edition, 1897, age-toned and occasional fox blotches but otherwise clean and tight internally, the original owner's name on the front endpaper, cloth very slightly worn, the spine faded slightly. More Pot-Pourri From a Surrey Garden, four…th impression, 1900, very slightly age-toned internally, cloth faded and slightly worn, the spine rather worn at the head and tail and lacking small pieces, with the bookplate of Alan Titchmarsh on the front endpaper . Pot-Pourri Mixed by Two, first edition, 1914, quite very clean internally, an early owner's name on the front endpaper, the spine faded and a little marked. A heavy set - extra postage will be needed. [Earle was born in 1836 in London into the Villiers family. She was invited to serve at Queen Victoria's court but refused in 1856. Her family gave her the nickname of "Radical Theresa".[ She and her husband moved to a new house in Cobham in Surrey called Woodlands, although she had a house in London too. There, she turned her interest to gardening and her creation was admired. She had help from one gardener and his boy assistant. In 1897 her gardening guide Pot-Pourri from a Surrey Garden was published. She had been encouraged to write this by friends and had been supported by Constance Lytton who typed some of the text. The book sold quickly and well and in this later edition Lady Constance Lytton has added a section of Japanese flower arranging. In 1899 she published "More Pot-pourri from a Surrey Garden". There were eventually three Pot-purri books and they were said to be the model for the early books of Gertrude Jekyll, who became a friend of hers. There were no more of her own gardening books but she collaborated with Ethel Case on two others. Earle died at her home, Woodlands, in Cobham in 1925. Earle was a vegetarian. She advocated a vegetarian diet in her book Diet Difficulties with Notes on Growing Vegetables, published in 1908. She promoted a fruit and vegetable diet in which coffee and tea are forbidden. Earle was Constance Lytton's aunt and converted her to vegetarianism.She was influenced by Alexander Haig's dietary theories. Her book A Third Pot-Pourri (1903) covered diet, health and vegetarianism. Adela Curtis, who taught meditation and was also a vegetarian assisted in preparing the book.].

A very interesting early twentieth-century work on gardening for beginners, organised into chapters by months of the year. In each chapter, the reader is instructed on what can be done in th…e garden during each month of the year to reap optimal vegetables, fruits, flowers, and all manner of plants.Written by Mrs C.W. Earle, or Theresa Earle, a British horticulturist and writer, and Ethel Case.A very scarce work.A previous owner has added in copious amounts of notes and handy information sourced from their own garden. They have signed their name to the front free-endpaper in ink ('H.R. Harvey') and have lightly annotated the work in pencil throughout. There are also some ink notations to take note of; to the verso of page xxiii, they have added in ink a list of herbs found in the garden. There is also a newspaper clipping adhered to page 234 containing a list of hardy herbaceous carpeting plants. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally, bright, with slight fading to the spine and a little bumping to the extremities. A faint ring stain to the front board. Previous owner's ink signature to the front free-endpaper. Internally, front hinge is starting to the half title page. Binding is tender, but firm, throughout. Pages contain the odd pencil annotation, and there are ink annotations to the verso of page xxiii, and to the page 233. There is a piece of newspaper adhered to page 234 and some offsetting to pages 110 and 111. Otherwise, pages remain clean. Good. Not Stated (illustrator). book.
