The Hieroglyph, her only novel, long out of print and here presented in a new edition with an introduction by literary scholar Daniel Corrick, is a mystical roman à clef of the highest order, revolving around her relationship with the magus Crowley and the various guises he took as poetic mentor, psychonaut, and mystical philosopher. The story follows the scandal surrounding the ill-fated public ceremonies known as the Rites of Eleusis, through the cataclysm of the Great War and beyond into undreamt of quests for salvation. Archer's reminiscences abound with descriptions of magical initiations, astral journeys and mescaline visions, as well as providing a speculative glimpse into the psychology of Crowley and the alternative fates which might have awaited him. The present edition also includes, as supplementary material, the series of unsigned articles, two of which have never before been reprinted, which led to the downfall of the A¿A¿.…

The thin fabric used for the spine is notoriously fragile, has some chipping but on this volume is intact. Dust wear to boards, slight rubbing at edges. Faint foxing to textblock, a few pages have light foxing, but the majority of pages are clean. This is an original 1911 printing of the sixth book of The Equinox- a compilation of esoteric poetry, fiction, and occult instruction, published biannually between 1909 and 1913 and edited by Alister Crowley.…

Loss to the central portion of the spine and the remaining portion is fragile but still attached. The binding remains tight. Light edge-wear to the boards with a little rubbing and wear to the corners. Free from inscriptions with most pages remaining uncut. Some light creasing in places. The striking cover artwork is widely regarded to be by the artist and publisher, Eugene Wieland, who was also Archer's husband. Two page introduction by Aleister Crowley and also with a single poem 'To E.A.' by Victor Neuberg. The book is protected in a removable Mylar archival cover. Archer was closely associated with Aleister Crowley and with the production of 'The Equinox' series. Scarce - Only the second copy we have handled. More images available on request.
