Printed for Private Circulation, 1884, printed on one side deploying the ?ishizuri? photocopy process, a type of woodblock "photocopy" "rubbings," a Japanese woodblock printing process (of either images or text) that mimics a stone rubbing (Wikipedia). Bound in strong black cloth binding, neat and distinct printed paper label to front cover. Endpapers bright and unmarked. This eminently readable collection of bawdy satire and humor was penned by Estinne Tabourot about a fictional and quite dumb 17th-century Lord of the Duche de Burgundy. Lord Gaulard exemplifies "early modern European satire and comedy," says a biographer. The author, Étienne Tabourot (1549?1590), says his Wikipedia entry, "a French jurist, writer and poet of the Renaissance," was born in Dijon, France and was raised in a literate, legalistic family, training at the College de Bourgogne and then the University of Toulouse, and then, upon returning to Dijon, purchased an office ("procureur du roi") and died there. He prepared several collections of folktales and satires, poetry and reviews. Les Bigarrures (i.e., "The Variegations"), was first published in Paris, France, in 1572. 38 pp.Member, I.O.B.A., C.B.A., and adherent to the highest ethical standards.
