Naturalism in art refers to the depiction of realistic objects in a natural setting. The Realism movement of the 19th century advocated naturalism in reaction to the stylized and idealized depictions of subjects in Romanticism. The various lithographs presented here depict in vivid colors models of wall and ceiling paintings. The 2-page preface is written by Ernst Wasmuth, editor and publisher of this work. Ernst Wasmuth Verlag was a famous publishing house whose fields of interest ranged from architecture, archeology, to art and design.
