Facsimile of a book written by the Bishop of Trondheim and printed by Trondheim's first recorded printer, Jens Christensen Winding. Limited edition of 300, of which this is no. 16. The foreword, written by Harald Nissen ( no relation to Claus Nissen, author of "Die b…otanische Buchillustration, Geschichte und Bibliographie") explains that Gunnerus was a scholar, translator of Leibnitz and founder of Det Trondhiemske Selskab, which later became det Kongelige Norske Videnskabers Selskab (a famous old natural history society). During his time as Bishop, Gunnerus corresponded with Carl Linnaeus in Uppsala, Sweden and was rewarded with the naming of a new genus Gunnera. Printed in an attractive Gothic font, this book is nicely reprinted on cream paper, and appropriately concludes with a quotation from the Bible, the last two pages being printed in a smaller font (evidently Winding was only just starting to perfect his craft).
