Vinyl album. Zustand: vg-. Later repressing. Square Quarto (11 1/4"). Original illustrated album cover with white lettering on cover. Protected by modern mylar. Striking modernist cover design with photomontage of bayonette. Cover design credited to "Nils" (possibly Nils Borg?). 10" vinyl record album (33 1/2 RPM Long Play) containing the Stinson Records repressing of the album original issued as "Songs of the Lincoln and International Brigade", in a three record album, released in 1944. The original album was produced by Moses Asch, for his Asch record label, and contained songs performed mostly in Spanish (a few in English), by members of the Almanac Singers, including Pete Seeger, Bess Lomax, Baldwin Hawes and Tom Glazer. These were tunes sung by the antifascist volunteers during the Spanish Civil War. The original record set consisted of three 78 records and a total of 6 songs. This single 10" album reissue combines 4 of those tracks, and adds an additional 6 tracks originally comprising the 1940 record, "Six Songs for Democracy" (Keynote Records, July 1940) performed by German singer and actor Ernest Busch (1900-1980) along with a chorus of members of the International Brigades, during the Spanish civil war in 1938. The Busch recordings comprise the A side of this record, and the first song on the B side. The final four tracks on the B side are the Seeger recordings. 10 Tracks: Side A: - Band 1: The Peat-Bog Soldiers - Band 2: Hans Beimler - Band 3: Song of the International Brigades - Band 4: Freedom - Band 5: Song of the United Front. Side B: - Band 1: The Four Insurgent Generals - Band 2: Cook House - Band 3: Spanish Marching Song - Band 4: Quinte Brigada - Band 5: Quinte Regimento. The Abraham Lincoln Brigade was an international brigade of volunteers for the Republican cause during the Spanish civil war, with the album containing "the songs of the men who left home and safety behind them in 1937 to fight Fascism" in Spain. The record label originally had an association with Moses's Asch's Asch and then Folkways label's. Stinson was initially known for its release of recordings made in the Soviet Union. It issued recordings by folk and blues music including recordings by Woody Guthrie and Josh White, and was known for an association with leftist politics. Back cover with listing of folk music recordings released by Stinson Records. A scarce pressing of a historically important record. Album cover wear along edges, with minor scuffing and lightly rubbing. Bottom edge mostly split. Vinyl with some light scratches. The record is somewhat noisey, with some pops, but is still listenable overall. Missing original inner record sleeve. Cover and record in vg-, condition overall. Cover protected in modern mylar.…
