Cloth with dustjacket. Zustand: Gut. 107 p. From the library of Prof. Wolfgang Haase, long-time editor of ANRW and the International Journal of the Classical Tradition (IJCT). - dustjacket slightly torn and rubbed otherwise perfect condition - This text departs most markedly from the usual elementary Greek book in the centrality of its graded Reader. We have abandoned the method which takes the student through a progression of grammar lessons each concluding with a few sentences for translation. Rather, after learning the alphabet and the pronunciation of Greek words, the student begins immediately to develop skill in finding his way from a word as encountered in reading to its appropriate lexicon entry. From this point on he immerses himself in the Reader with lexicon in hand. All further grammatical principles are then brought in by way of explaining relationships observed by the student in his reading of Greek. -- Here is a radical departure from traditional methods of presenting New Testament Greek to beginning stu-dents in seminaries and colleges. It is based on principles successfully tested in dozens of classes by two experienced teachers, who have set a precise and limited goal: to equip the student with a basic vocabulary, experience in reading, and skill in using a lexicon. -- A key to the authors technique of teaching grammar through reading lies in their simplification of the learning of forms. Instead of compelling the student to memorize the hundreds of forms of Greek words, they assist him to recognize the basic signs that will lead him to rapid identification. This is accomplished through Tables of Identifiers and practice lists of troublesome forms. -- The Reader, which comprises more than half of the main text, is carefully graded to permit the steady growth of skill and comprehension. It contains a vocabulary of 300 words, including all words that occur at least 50 times in the New Testament. The progressive mastery of this basic vocabulary builds confidence and enthusiasm in approaching the New Testament itself. ISBN 9781565635999 Sprache: Englisch Gewicht in Gramm: 194.
