Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - Seminar paper from the year 2010 in the subject Politics - International Politics - Topic: International Organisations, grade: 90, LMU Munich, course: Introduction to International Politics, language: English, abstract: The now dissolved League of Nations was replaced when the United Nations Charter came into effect on October 24 in 1945. Five permanent member states signed onto the Security Council: China, France, the Soviet Union, the United Kingdom and the United States. Their collective influence empowered the organization and gave it the legitimacy that the League of Nations lacked. The UN flowered thereafter as it became a catalyst for change in response to humanitarian crises and the propensity of war. Social services developed around the world thanks to the organization, and conflict resolution became a key facet of the intergovernmental agency. The United Nations in its current state is subject to much scrutiny. Despite its strength in its work in protecting and serving the needs of humanity and functioning as mediatory power for international conflict resolution, the UN does falter as a 'world government' as it heralds little hegemony and is ineffective at being a progressive power.

Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - Research Paper (postgraduate) from the year 2010 in the subject History - World History - Early and Ancient History, grade: 90, University of San Francisco, course: Roman History, language: English, abstract: In the early history of the Italian peninsula, as its territories were being settled, thelands farmed, and animals domesticated, the population was relatively low and spread faracross its mountains, valleys and along the rivers. Despite the modest beginnings in theera of pre-history, as settlements joined together and tribes grew and founded villages andtowns, the Italian peninsula became a more lively and interactive arena in the Europeanlandscape. Not as historically active or significant until the first millennia BC, the area ofthe Po River Valley, where the modern day city of Modena stands, became a hotbed forculture clashes and military conflicts. Empire builders, traders, soldiers, farmers andpastoralists all came through this wooded region of the Italian peninsula and through thewalls of what once was known as Mutina and today as Modena. The city of Modena inthe Po River Valley on the Italian Peninsula has been blessed with a rich history ofEtruscan settlement, Celtic influence, and Roman domination as it was a decisiveeconomic and military location for all three conquest-centered cultures that tread throughits boundaries. Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - For years, Ukrainian journalist Maksym Eristavi has been mainstreaming the global awareness about the legacy of Russian colonialism. A few days before Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine, he started a Twitter thread listing all Russian colonial invasions over the last century and highlighting one specific pattern that they all went by. The post has gone viral and is now dubbed the 'mother of all Russian colonialism tweets'. Together with a group of Ukrainian artists, Eristavi transformed it into an illustrated pocket guide to the 48 most recent invasions of Russian colonialism - to bring everyone's attention to a pattern of serial behavior by the largest colonial empire. Publication is prepared with the support of the MOCA NGO and the Ukrainian Emergency Art Fund in collaboration with the Sigrid Rausing Trust. Some illustrations created during the illustrative workshop for the book Russian Colonialism 101 have been donated to the Ukrainian Museum of Contemporary Art (UMCA).

In den WarenkorbFirst edition hard back binding in publisher's original brick red cloth covered boards, blocked and lettered in black, family crest to the front cover. 8vo. 7½'' x 5¼''. The Dadeshkeliani or Dadishkeliani was an aristocratic family from the mountainous western Georgian province of Svaneti, they ruled the Principality of Svaneti from the 1720s to 1857. Continuing dynastic strife among the Dadishkeliani, their defiance to the Russian government, and vacillation during the Crimean War (1854-1856), however, led to direct Russian intervention. In 1857, Prince Alexander Baryatinsky, Viceroy of the Caucasus, ordered Svaneti to be subdued by armed force. The prince of Svaneti, Constantine, chose to negotiate, but was ordered into exile to Erivan. On a farewell audience in Kutaisi, he quarreled with a local Russian administrator, Alexander Gagarin, and stabbed him to death and three of his staff. When captured, Constantine was summarily tried by court martial and shot. In 1858, the principality was abolished and converted into a district administered by a Russian-appointed officer. Several members of the Dadeshekeliani family were exiled to the remote Russian provinces and those who remained in Georgia were deprived of their privileges of autonomous princes. During World War I, Dadeshkeliani joined the Russian Army, and served with the 4th Tartar Regiment, she drove an ambulance on the Austrian front before being wounded in 1916. After the war, she lived in Georgia and served in the Constituent Assembly of the Democratic Republic of Georgia. However, when Soviet Russia took control of the country in March 1921, the family moved to Paris, this is an account her wartime experiences. Contains frontispiece of Prince Djamal, 301 pp with 3 further monochrome plates, Castles in Svanetia, Prince Murat's Letter, and a Record of Service in the 22nd Field Ambulance. pp 19 marked with brown stain, Royal Naval War Libraries indigo stamp inside the front cover, light rubbing to the covers and in Very Good condition, no dust wrapper.
