La Somme le Roy "is a series of moral treatises on the Commandments, the Creed, the seven deadly sins as typified by the heads of the Apocalyptic Beast, the preparation for holy liviing and dying, the Lord's Prayer, the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit, the four cardinal virtues, etc. and was compiled in 1279 by the Dominican Frère Laurent or Lorens, for Phillippe III, le Hardi, King of France (d. 1285), to whom he was confessor" (p. 13). Eric Millar, Keeper of Manuscripts at the British Museum, writes the scholarly description of this manuscript, his copy. Light uneven toning to the covers, interior fresh and fine.
