(B&W photographs, ads, diagrams, graphics, etc.) The highlight of this issue is a 9-page feature on Case Study Houses #8 and #9, designed by Charles Eames and Eero Saarinen (the former listed as an "Editorial Associate" of the magazine), presenting floor plans and other renderings. (No photography, however, because the houses themselves would not be built until a few years later.) #8 (known as the Eames House) and #9 (the Entenza House), both located in Pacific Palisades, California, are two of the most famous of the Case Study Houses, and both are still extant today, having miraculously survived the devastating Palisades fire of January 2025. Also in this issue: "Report on Creative Life in Berlin," by Robert Joseph; "An Approach to Space," by Benjamin Baldwin, from the notes of Jim Davis; "Who am I?", an illustrated children's poem by Lily Saarinen; "Exploration of New Film Techniques"; "Small Modern Shop" (two pages, illustrated with photographs by Julius Shulman, one of the magazine's two staff photographers); "Adventure in Education," by Edwin and Molly Morgenroth. There are also regular columns/commentaries on art, books, and music, plus an additional interesting coverage of music in cinema, in which several then-current film scores are discussed. The 1945-1954 segment of this important periodical's run has been reprinted by Taschen, but original individual issues (especially with such significant content) are mighty scarce. The magazine's publisher and editor from 1940 to 1962, John Entenza, was a major champion of American modernism, and of course was the primary sponsor of the Case Study Houses project itself.…
