In den WarenkorbHardback. Zustand: Very Good. First Edition. 1928. First edition. 201pp., a frontispiece portrait of the author and 6 other black and white illustrations. Letitia Elizabeth Landon (1802-1838) was an English poet and novelist, better known by her initials L.E.L. Her work was also very popular in the United States, and was highly…regarded by Edgar Allan Poe. In spite of her wide influence, due to the perceived immorality of Landon's lifestyle, her works were largely ignored or misrepresented after her death. Landon's writings are emblematic of the transition from Romanticism to Victorian literature. This biographical account of her life and work, partially fictionalised, also covers the mysterious circumstances of her death, where she was found dead with a bottle of prussic acid in her hand. The book is bound in the original pink silk textured cloth covered boards with gold titling on the spine. The case of the books is in very good condition with shelf wear and some soiling to the boards. The spine ends are bumped and the spine is sunned and is now a light pinkish-brown colour. The contents are tight and clean with browning to the half-title page and some of the pages remain unseparated down the fore edge. There is no inscription.

Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - 'A Lady of the Salons: The Story of Louise Colet' provides a compelling biographical account of the life and times of Louise Colet, one of the most intriguing figures in nineteenth-century French literature. A renowned poet and a powerful presence in the intellectual circles of Paris, Colet w…as a woman who navigated the complex social and romantic landscapes of her era with passion and determination. This work explores her influence as a salonnière, where she hosted and interacted with the leading literary minds of the day. Central to her narrative is her tumultuous relationship with the novelist Gustave Flaubert, a connection that left a lasting mark on both their lives and literary legacies. D. E. Enfield details Colet's struggles for professional recognition in a male-dominated field, her literary rivalries, and her significant contributions to the Romantic movement. By tracing her journey from her youth in the provinces to the height of Parisian society, the book offers readers an intimate look at the intersections of art, gender, and fame in mid-nineteenth-century France. 'A Lady of the Salons: The Story of Louise Colet' serves as an essential portrait of a woman who refused to be sidelined, capturing the vibrant spirit of a pivotal era in European cultural history. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it.
