Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - (LKM Music). This great bravura piece uses many of the innovations the composer learned from his teacher, Niccolo Paganini--ricochet and flying staccato bowings, double harmonics, left hand pizzicato, and repetition of the same pitch on all four strings. This work remained one of Jascha Heifetz' favorite encores. He recorded it in 1917 and again in 1937. His bowings, fingerings and his suggestions regarding interpretation are integral part of this edition.…

This new edition of the violin solo part to the Korngold Violin Concerto in D Major is the first-ever to include Jascha Heifetz's performance notations, edited by Endre Granat, one of his star proteges. Born in Austria, Korngold was forced into US exile by the annexation of Austria by the Nazis. He vowed to give up composing anything other than film music until Hitler was defeated. With the end of World War II, he retired from films to concentrate on music for the concert hall. The violin concerto was the first such work that Korngold wrote following some initial persuasion from violinist and fellow emigre Bronislaw Huberman. Korngold was hurt by the assumption that he had sold his integrity to Hollywood. He was thus determined to prove himself with a work that combined vitality and superb craftsmanship. Korngold composed his Violin Concerto in D major, Op.35, in 1945, dedicating it to Alma Mahler, the widow of his childhood mentor, Gustav Mahler. The work was premiered on February, 15 1947 by Jascha Heifetz and the St. Louis Symphony under conductor Vladimir Golschmann. It received the most enthusiastic ovation in St. Louis concert history at the time. On March 30, 1947, Heifetz played the concerto in Carnegie Hall with the New York Philharmonic conducted by Efrem Kurtz; the broadcast performance was recorded on transcription discs. Heifetz's performance launched the work into the standard repertoire, and it quickly became Korngold's most popular piece. Concerning Heifetz's performance of the work, the composer wrote, 'In spite of the demand for virtuosity in the finale, the work with its many melodic and lyric episodes was contemplated more for a Caruso than for a Paganini. It is needless to say how delighted I am to have my concerto performed by Caruso and Paganini in one person: Jascha Heifetz.'.…

Noten. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - (LKM Music). 'This Critical Performance Edition is primarily based on the first print by the Russian publisher Jurgenson. In the Andante Funebre and Humoresque, the quartet and piano versions, respectively, were used for comparison. The composer accepted corrections by Leopold Auer and Vassily Bezekirsky, which are indicated in the violin part. The Meditation, Scherzo and Melodie (collectively named Souvenir d'un lieu cher) and Serenade Melancolique are dedicated to the famed Russian virtuoso and pedagogue Leopold Auer. The Valse Scherzo was dedicated to the budding virtuoso violinist Josif Kotek. The Andante Funebre is dedicated to the memory of Ferdinand Laub, perhaps Tchaikovsky's favorite violinist. The Humoresque is an irresistible piece for piano transcribed by the composer for violin and piano. No violinist, nor indeed any performer has been capable of doing justice to the enormous stylistic and emotional range of these works more than Jascha Heifetz. Mr. Heifetz's enormous repertory included the complete oeuvre of Tchaikovsky. Mr. Heifetz's bowing, fingerings and performance suggestions are an integral part of this edition.'.…

Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - (LKM Music). Sarasate's concert career began at age seventeen after he was awarded the coveted Premier Prix from the Paris Conservatoire for both violin and composition. After his London debut, the playwright and music critique George Bernard Shaw wrote in his review that Sarasate 'left criticism gasping miles behind him.' Shaw also declared that there were many composers of music for the violin; there were but few composers like Sarasate for violin music. His vast concert repertory included many works written for and dedicated to him by Bruch, Saint-Saens, Wieniawski, Dvorak and many others. He performed his own works in an inimitable, brilliant and charming manner. His contemporaries marveled at his perfect intonation and stunning rhythmic acuity. His bowing technique was the pride of the French School of violin playing. The works presented in this volume are among his finest. All are based on Spanish popular music and are a virtuosic set for violin and piano. They are and have been in virtually every great violinist's repertory. They are also exceptionally popular as encore pieces, as well as favorites of budding virtuosos.…
