Volume I: x + 408pp. Volume II: vi + 489pp. Original brown cloth covered boards ruled in black and lettered in gilt on the spine…s. Occasional pencilling, slight wear to head and tail of spines but a good set of the scarce first edition. 22 x 13.5cm. Major General Sir Herbert B. Edwardes was a British Indian official who fought in the Sikh Wars, and reformed the civil administration of Banu, 1847. Edwardes received his greatest celebrity by twice suppressing the rebel Diwan Mulraj in 1848. After serving as commissioner of Peshawar, 1853-9, he finally retired to England through ill-health in 1865. This memorial was written by his wife, Lady Emma Sidney Edwardes.
