Vanishingly scarce first editions of three mid 19th century publications from the General Protestant Episcopal Sunday School Union and Church Book Society, each with a mo…ral message.The first of these works is the 1859 first edition of 'The Sisters Clare Preparing for Confirmation' by A. G. Radcliffe, about the baptism and conformation of a young family.The second is the 1864 first edition of 'The Miner's Hut' by Emma Macallan, illustrated with a frontispiece.The final work, dated circa 1860 and anonymously authored, is 'The Mirage of Life', illustrated with six vignettes and with thirty pages of advertisements to the rear.With the bookplate of St. John's Church Sunday School, Salisbury Connecticut to each front pastedown. Two volumes in morocco backed marbled paper covered boards, with the third in cloth backed paper covered boards. Rubbing to boards and back strip heads and tails. Hinges of Hut strained, but firmly held. Bookplates to front pastedown of each volume. Internally, generally firmly bound. Pages lightly age toned throughout, with handling mark and foxing throughout. Closed tear to Hut frontispiece head. Good. None (illustrator). book.
