No date on title page. 83 pages, followed by 48 full color plates of birds and their identification. In Portuguese throughout. good condition. Binding snug and strong. Head of the spine and corners are lightly bumped. Pages foxed on the endpapers and page edges. Interior lightly toned, but free of marks or writing. Dust jacket is lightly toned and foxed, with chipping around the head. A small handwritten label, with the number 10,207 at the foot of the spine. This is probably from Thomas Lovejoy's personal library inventory system. SIGNED to Thomas Lovejoy, with an inscription from the author, Emilio Goeldi on the half-title page. Also SIGNED on the half-title page by David C. Oren, famed biologist and cryptozoologist. There are several other unidentified signatures on the half-title page as well. Overall good condition. This book is from the collection of Thomas Lovejoy. Dr. Lovejoy was an influential ecologist, field biologist, and activist; former head of the Amazon Biodiversity Center, World Wildlife Fund, and advisor to the United Nations and Smithsonian Institution. He is credited with introducing the term 'biological diversity' to the mainstream environmental movement. In addition, he was a passionate collector of books on the natural world. Im gleichen Jahr wurde er Prof. und Konservator am brasilianischen Nationalmuseum in Rio de Janeiro. Nach dem Sturz der Monarchie private Forschung auf dem schwiegerväterlichen Landgut Colonia Alpina bei Therezopolis. 1894-1907 Direktor des später nach ihm benannten Museu Paraense Emílio Goeldi in Pará (heute Belém). 1907 PD, 1908-17 ao. Prof. für Biologie und Tiergeografie an der Univ. Bern. Pionier der naturwissenschaftl. und ethnolog. Erforschung des Amazonas. (HLS). - Göldi entdeckte eine ganze Reihe von bisher unbekannten Tierarten. - Die schönen Tafeln mit je einem bedruckten Seidenpapier mit den lateinischen und portugiesischen Namen. Seidenpapiere vereinzelt leicht knittrig. Lieferungsumschläge etwas gebräunt, fleckig und mit Einrissen an den Falzkanten. Die 2.
