Hardcover. Zustand: Very Good. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Very Good. 1st Edition. HELL ON ICE THE SAGA OF THE JEANNETTE BY COMMANDER EDWARD ELLSBERG 1938 1ST DJ. Staying with adventure in the frozen north, please find: Hell on Ice The Saga of the Jeannette by Commander Edward Ellsberg. This is the story of the first expedition to seek the North Pole by way of the Bering Sea and of the plight of the boat and its crew that was trapped in the ice, a drama which many of them survived through countless hardships. This medium-sized hard cover book (6 ¼ x 8 ¾ inches, 421 pages plus 4 pages of publisher s adverts) was published by Dodd Mead & Company of New York dated 1938 and the first edition. It is an engaging tale and one you will find hard to put down. The book is bound in sea blue boards with lighter blue edging and gilt decorations and titles. It is protected by a pictorial dust jacket itself sheathed in Brodart mylar book cover. I was a bit surprised to find that there are no illustrations beyond the decorations of the endpapers which show the route of the Saga. Condition: This book is in very good condition. There is some light edge wear to the dust jacket, hopefully arrested now by the application of the mylar. The hard covers are a bit dust-dulled and the gilt a bit muted. I am happy to report that inside the book is unmarked and the pages are bright and clean throughout, without toning or foxing. Both hinges are intact, and the binding is tight and sound. This book is not ex-library or a remainder.
